No matter if you go for a camping or lodge/luxury tented safari you will be driven in a 4x4 Land cruiser or land rover. These cars have roof openings to allow you a view to all sides. Our groups are usually restricted to not more than 6 people per car so every one has a window seat. We also do safaris by less costing minibuses in Kenya on request.
Breakfast is mostly before sunrise and we drive off between 6.30 and 7.00 a.m. Return to the camp for the hot midday. We take lunch, have time to observe nearby animals and birds, to rest or to write diary. After the 3 p.m. tea we start our afternoon game drive and stay until the sun sets. Animals are most active in the early morning and late afternoon hours. Despite that, the light is the best shortly after sunrise and before sunset. After dinner we sit around the campfire in the mobile tent and listen to the sounds of the night like the laugh of hyenas and roars lions.
In larger parks we do not only go for the usual morning and afternoon game drives, we often spend the whole day out in the bush having picnic lunch in the park under a shady tree no matter if we stay in our mobile camp or lodges. We can therefore reach more remote places in those parks.
We are very flexible in our daily programs and like to consider your wishes.
Mobile tented camp - camping:
Where ever possible we camp on private campsites not to be disturbed by other people’s activities. In larger parks we choose the campsites according to the movements and expected whereabouts of animals. The tents are positioned under a shady tree with enough space in-between them so you still have your privacy. All campsites are not fenced and do allow any kind of animal to pass by. Still, there is nothing to worry since animals are not interested in tents, as long you do not keep food in them. Our staff is experienced with wild animals and please obey their instructions for your own safety.
Our tents are large enough to stand upright, except in budget camping safaris. Mosquito nets prevent most insects from entering. You either sleep on mattresses or camp beds depending on the standard booked.
A shower tent with a solar bag hanging from a branch will be built in the camp, so you do not miss your daily shower. In front of your tent is a washbasin filled regularly with fresh water. The tents have enough space in-between, so you have your privacy. A deep whole in the ground, a wooden seat with 4 legs and a curtain around it, that is our bush toilet. A mess tent will protect you from hot sun or rain.
While being in a mobile camp you become part of nature but do not miss comfort.
Food: For camping safaris we prepare part of the meals in Nairobi and keep them frozen in cool boxes. On longer trips we buy fresh vegetables, fruits, meat, poultry and fish while doing transfers. The meals are rich and varied. In the bush we cook either on gas cookers, open fire or nature friendly charcoal. Soft drinks, mineral water and beer are carried along. Let us know if you would like wine or spirits and we will have it ready for you.
